Acha Ouma is the Head of Public Affairs & Policy at Ong'anya Ombo Advocates LLP. She is currently pursuing her LLM in Governance and Democracy at the University of Nairobi. She is well versed in terms of knowledge and tone of conversation, touching on matters affecting business enterprises in Kenya and across the border. She understands the need to help business entities to operate smoothly and have a thriving business environment without being targeted through a regulatory framework and, where necessary, advises the relevant stakeholders on how best to develop the law to protect both the consumer and business.
She specializes in stakeholder mapping and engagement, parliamentary watch (on specific laws affecting a business), regulatory compliance, liaison services, making submissions to Parliament or Parliamentary Committees to enhance Client interests, fostering progressive relationships between government agencies and businesses, among others.
Kenya Revenue Authority: advised and offered strategic support during the annual budget and finance bill cycle and also enabled a smooth interaction during intense inquiries from Parliament and Parliamentary Committees. Also, helped in mapping out and developing the necessary strategies for KRA to engage the public and private sectors on matters new tax laws or procedures.
Safaricom PLC: advised and engaged as liaison for Safaricom concerning relations with government agencies such as the Competition Authority, and Communication Authority on various technical and operational factors in the Kenyan market. The services extended to mapping out the application of various laws and how to model the internal or external operations for purposes of ensuring compliance.
Diageo Group: provided stakeholder mapping in the private sector and government agencies/ ministries. The solutions included enabling the understanding of the proposed laws or laws in place with a view of engaging various regulatory bodies to understand the company's operations better to avoid any misconceived opinions. Also, offered effective parliamentary watch services and liaison services to enhance Client interests.
KCB: enhancing the company’s regulatory compliance and developing various compliance tools such as under the sustainability area – a highly emerging area of practice both locally, regionally, and internationally. Helped develop and review key policies that were highly impacted by the developing or emerging regulatory framework in Kenya, such as Finance, Banking, and Data protection laws. The services extended to offering stakeholder support that touched on key departments such as information technology, commercial, treasury, and compliance.
